TD '09 - Guerin finally on the move

March 05, 2009

The Pittsburgh Penguins made a deal for another wingman to lineup with Sid ‘the Kid’ when they acquired winger Billy Guerin who had been in trade limbo for the past few days at home as the Islanders bumbled their way through potential offers.

It’s funny that the Islanders ask him to stay away from the club as they work out a deal with a few interested clubs and they settle on dealing him for a conditional draft pick in ’09.  The conditions on the pick will relate to the Penguins success in the playoffs. It’s currently a 5th-round draft pick but it could end up being a 3rd-round pick.

Guerin is no stranger to being dealt at the deadline and he will be joining is eight club. He will be expected to replace Miroslav Satan on Crosby’s wing and provide a physical presence down-low and create space for his linemates. Guerin himself will be looking to have a better playoff than he did last year (2 pts in 9 playoff games) after being dealt to San Jose.
