TD '09 - More Depth Moves

March 05, 2009

There were a few more minor deals done before the deadline that were nothing more than depth moves;

The Boston Bruins dealt forward Petteri Nokelainen to Anaheim for defenseman Steve Montador.

The Atlanta Thrashers traded underachieving forward Erik Christensen (he was acquired last trade deadline from Pittsburgh in the Marian Hossa deal) to Anaheim for prospect Eric O’Dell, who currently plays for the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League.

The Tampa Bay Lightning deal defenseman Steve Eminger to their state rival Panthers for defenseman Noah Welch and a 3rd-round draft pick in ’09.

The Calgary Flames dealt from strength, their goaltending depth and shipped prospect Kevin Lalande to the Columbus Blue Jackets for a 4th-round draft pick in ’09.

The Philadelphia Flyers were hoping to land Jay Bouwmeester for their backend but couldn’t make a deal work due to cap constraints, so they settled on dealing for Kyle McLaren from the San Jose Sharks for a 6th-round draft pick in ’09. McLaren has been playing the season in San Jose’s farm system due to salary-cap issues and because he sucks.
