Then there was 'two'...

May 20, 2008

The boys from Motown disposed of the Dallas Stars in quite easy fashion this evening. The final score was 4-1 but it was a dominant performance by Detroit from the drop of the puck. The victory places the Wings in the Cup Finals for the 23rd time in the clubs history and gives them the chance to win their fourth championship in eleven seasons.

There opponents will be the “young guns” from the Steel City. Crosby and Co. disposed of Philly in easy fashion on Sunday afternoon and it cannot be understated how easily they have made it seem to get to the Finals (12-2 in this year’s playoffs). It took Gretzky four seasons to get to the Finals and Lemieux seven, Crosby is there in only his third.

This must be a huge coup for Gary ‘the weasel’ Bettman and the NHL’s brass, as Crosby, there most marketable commodity and face of the league takes on one of its most storied franchises for the right to hoist Lord Stanley’s mug.

On a different note the Finals don’t begin until Saturday as the minions running the league do nothing practical. They should start it on Thursday and get a nice prime-time slot on both sides of the border, following that up with Game 2 on Saturday night. The nice thing is if it the series goes the distance we are done before the middle of June. Instead, we get to watch a week of player and management interviews and over-analysis from the experts on who will and how they will do it.

So in following with the above theme I will be analyzing the series for the next week and providing the most useless information I can find to help predict the winner of what will be a very entertaining Final.
