The game opened with a furious pace as the teams exchanged scoring chances in a back-and-forth battle that saw the two squads collect 10 shots apiece.

Team USA resumed Group A round robin play with a 6-1 win over Norway at Canada Hockey Place on Thursday afternoon.

After only registering 24 shots against the Swiss in Game 1, it was clear the Americans wanted to get more pucks on net in their second game and peppered Norwegian goalie Pal Grotnes with 15 shots in the opening frame.

The United States solidified a semifinal match against Sweden by beating Finland 6-0 at UBC Thunderbird Arena on Thursday.

The win for the Americans wraps up a perfect preliminary round that saw them outscore their Group B opponents 31-1 in three games.

Sidney Crosby saved the day, and a country heaved a sigh of relief.

But there is still work to do if Team Canada is to claim the Olympic gold medal the hometown fans are yearning for.

The star centre, controversially left off an ill-fated Canadian team as an 18-year-old four years ago in Turin, scored on his second attempt in the shootout to help his team eke out a 3-2 victory over Switzerland on Thursday at the Vancouver Games.
