Buffalo Sabres

In the final minute of a big win for the Buffalo Sabres, Ryan Miller heard his hometown crowd chant: "USA! USA!"

At that point, Miller knew it was time to focus on the Olympics.

The star goalie made 27 saves in his final tuneup to help the Sabres beat the San Jose Sharks 3-1 on Saturday night.

Dallas Stars

Marty Turco has responded well to a challenge.

Turco made 40 saves for his fourth shutout of the season and 40th overall, and Brandon Segal and rookie Jamie Benn scored second-period goals in the Dallas Stars' 3-0 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night. Turco has blanked the Coyotes twice in the last eight days, posting a 4-0 shutout in Dallas on Feb 6, when Benn had two goals. In between the shutout, Dallas acquired young goalie Kari Lehtonen from Atlanta.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers are hitting the Olympic break on a high, largely at the expense of the Montreal Canadiens.

Daniel Briere got a hat trick and Jeff Carter extended his goal streak to four games as the Flyers completed a home-and-home sweep with a 6-2 win Saturday night over the Canadiens.

Olympic Hype

The Canadian women’s team kicked off their run for a third straight Olympic gold medal with an 18-0 drubbing of the Slovaks in Group A action at Canada Hockey Place on Sunday night.

The host nation’s team opened the tournament in style by setting a women’s Olympic record with 18 goals, eclipsing their previous record of 16, set in 2006.

Chicago Blackhawks

Jonathan Toews wasn't about to let yet another shaky second period by his Chicago Blackhawks cost them the game.

Toews scored the lone shootout goal to give the Blackhawks their third straight victory, 5-4 over the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday night. The Blackhawks surged ahead in the first period, taking a 3-1 lead on goals by Patrick Sharp, Kim Johnsson and Marian Hossa.

Calgary Flames

Jarome Iginla is catching fire at just the right time for Canada's Olympic hockey team.

Iginla scored twice Saturday night to lead the Calgary Flames to a much needed 3-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks. Iginla heads into the Olympic break with six goals in his last 10, which comes on the heels of a 15-game stretch in which the Flames captain scored just once.

Los Angeles Kings

Jack Johnson's excellent adventure to Vancouver and back didn't take too much out of him. He still had enough energy at both ends of the ice to help the Los Angeles Kings go into the Olympic break with a victory.

Johnson assisted on third-period goals by Anze Kopitar and Oscar Moller in a 3-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night, and also did enough dirty work around his own net to help Jonathan Quick earn his NHL leading 34th victory and second shutout of the season.
