Phoenix Coyotes

Shane Doan took the penalty that led to the goal that nearly sealed Detroit's victory.

Instead, the Phoenix captain wound up scoring the game-winner as the Red Wings blew another late lead. Doan redeemed himself by scoring in overtime after the Coyotes scored twice in the final 90 seconds for a 5-4 win over the Red Wings on Tuesday night.

Columbus Blue Jackets

For a change, it was the Nashville Predators who were left to face the toughest questions after a game with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Steve Mason made 29 saves and Derick Brassard, Kristian Huselius and Fredrik Modin scored to lead the Blue Jackets over the Predators 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Atlanta Thrashers

Atlanta Thrashers coach John Anderson couldn't think of a better way to win a game.

Maxim Afinogenov ended Atlanta's power-play drought with a third-period goal to lift the Thrashers past the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 on Tuesday night. Johan Hedberg stopped 34 shots for Atlanta.

Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks needed just 44 seconds to take the fight out of the Edmonton Oilers.

Jonathan Toews scored on Chicago's first shot of the game and the Blackhawks added to Edmonton's misery on Tuesday, beating the Oilers 4-2 and sending the NHL's last-place team to their 11th straight loss.

Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks plan to meet with staff of the CBC's Hockey Night in Canada over criticism of Alex Burrows, general manager Mike Gillis said Tuesday.

Gillis wouldn't say what approach the Canucks will take after host Ron MacLean criticized the Canucks winger after he said NHL referee Stephane Auger was out to get him.

"I really don't want to say what the factors are that we're considering," Gillis said as he watched the Canucks practise. "We're going to meet with them and we're going to see what their reaction is and go from there."

Montreal Canadiens

One goal was a shot at glory, while the other wasn't so flashy. That mattered little to Shawn Matthias and the Florida Panthers, who needed them both.

Matthias scored twice in the third period to lift the Panthers to a 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Jamal Mayers stared straight ahead at no one in particular as he attempted to describe yet another miserable outing by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"We keep shooting ourselves in the foot with stupid mistakes and it ends up in the back of our net," the veteran winger said.

Undone by a series of giveaways, lost puck battles and a generally uninspired offence, the Leafs fell for the fourth straight game, losing 5-3 to the Los Angeles Kings in front of an unsettled home crowd Tuesday night.

Ottawa Senators

When the Devils come to town, talk inevitably shifts from the opposition to New Jersey goaltender and sure-fire Hall of Famer Martin Brodeur.

But that isn't the case this week in Ottawa, where Brodeur's counterpart, Brian Elliott, is all the rage.

The NHL's reigning No. 1 star of the week made 24 saves for his fourth career shutout in the Senators' 3-0 win on Tuesday night, their seventh win in a row and first against the Devils in 10 meetings dating back to Oct. 27, 2007.
