Washington Capitals

Brooks Laich scored twice - including while shorthanded in the third period - and Alex Ovechkin finally converted a penalty shot as the Washington Capitals beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3 on Sunday.

Washington, the league's highest scoring team, had at least four goals for the seventh straight game to improve to 6-1 during that stretch.

Colorado Avalanche

Colorado Avalanche forward Milan Hejduk will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his knee and is expected to be out for the next two-to-four weeks.

Hejduk has missed several games this season because of the injury, including a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

Chicago Blackhawks

Jonathan Toews, Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp scored in the shootout to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.

Troy Brouwer, Sharp and Patrick Kane scored in regulation for Chicago. Antti Niemi stopped 35 shots. Nicklas Lidstrom, Henrik Zetterberg and Patrick Eaves scored for Detroit. Pavel Datsyuk had two assists and Jimmy Howard made 26 saves.

NHL Hype

NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell is standing by the work and integrity of the league's officials, but he told Hockey Night in Canada's Ron MacLean on Saturday that referee Stephane Auger erred when he approached Vancouver forward Alex Burrows during the pre-game skate of the Jan. 11 game between the Canucks and Predators.

Campbell was speaking to MacLean during the final portion of Scotiabank Hockey Tonight.

Auger told Burrows that he was embarrassed by the forward's antics in a game he officiated on Dec. 8 between the same teams.

New York Rangers

Ryan Callahan had two goals and two assists, Brandon Dubinsky added two goals and an assist and the New York Rangers broke out of a scoring drought to beat the Montreal Canadiens 6-2 on Sunday night.

Marian Gaborik had a goal and two assists, and Chris Drury also scored to help the Rangers — who had only five goals overall in their previous five games — end a three-game losing streak. They outshot Montreal 34-20, including 15-2 in the second period.

Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames had no trouble scoring goals on Sunday night. They were hurt by poor goaltending, unlucky bounces and a mental mistake.

As a result, the Anaheim Ducks overcame a 4-3 deficit with a pair of third-period goals for a 5-4 victory.

The loss was the 11th in a row suffered by the Flames at the Honda Center dating back to Jan. 19, 2004. They have only one win in their last 21 games in Orange County since Jan. 13, 1999.
